Howdy,

got some more questions :)

1. is it possible to turn off the shadows for an object? For example, using environment lights in a closed room with the room not casting shadows.
2. i was thinking of getting the plugin for modo too, would i be able to share materials between both plugins (and the stand alone while i'm at it :) )
3. is it possible to use a hdri for reflections, but not as a lightsource? And maybe have the option to use another hdri map (or regular environment) as light source?

Thanks,
Elele.

I'm not an expert, but as Octane is physically based rendering engine that does not 'cheat' (or at least not that much) I would say the answers would be:

1. No
2. No - but maybe it may change in the future - well at least maybe for the interchange with the standalone. Not really sure if it will ever be possible with other plugins as those are created and maintained by different authors and are probably not using any sort of 'standard' for storing the material data within the plugins.
3. No - and this one bugs me as well. If I remember correctly there were some workarounds that were proposed like with a transmissive skydome but that for sure is not the ideal solution.

But maybe I'm mistaken and someone more informed will correct me on the above. :)

Darn it man! You can't answer "no" to every question, that's like a rule of the universe :D
So even sharing materials with the standalone is not an option yet?

According to multiple sources in multiple threads regarding number 2:

The integration of .ORBX is specifically to allow moving all parts of a scene (camera, mats, animation, etc.) between plugins and the standalone. Like a crazy integrated alembic, if you will.

So the correct answer for that one is "not yet."

Unsure on the other two, although I seem to remember seeing something about the hdri reflections somewhere..

One more, is there a way to adjust the saturation of an image map?

The little box with an arrow immediately to the left of the image file name will open the image in the image editor you defined under settings. Not exactly integrated, but limited only by your inage editing software. Theceyeball indicates the file is being watched for changes. Either save the file to apply your changes, or click and select "browse disk" and selextcyour new saved image.

I tend to dial the Gamma down for a desaturated look.
