I'm getting some very weird polygonal shadow artifacts when I try to render a landscape made using a simple plane with a displace parameter in 3DSMax. I'm rendering with a single Daylight light.

They don't occur on a similar render using the scanline renderer, so it seems to be an Octane issue.

This could be me doing something dumb - any ideas / suggestions?

UPDATE: I've now exported this as an Alembic mesh, put it into Standalone, and I'm seeing the same artifacts. I don't recall seeing this in landscape renders prior to 1.5, so I'm a bit confused - although I accept it's probably something I'm doing wrong!

Hi

I am doing scene now which involves terrain models with displace modifier and have similar issues. I managed to fix these issues with the following two ways, either turning sun size up to soften shadows to help get rid of those artefacts or with the ray epsilon setting in the render kernel settings.

It's a common path tracers issue. Some engines have been able to fix it and the others have not.
Obviously Octane has the problem. You can smooth out the shadows by adding more polygons (subdividing).

Increasing the sun size worked a treat! Thanks!
