model tessellation results different in Standalone vs Max

Why am I getting different (lower) mesh quality when using the plugin versus the Standalone? I'm fairly new to Octane so I may be missing some setting somewhere that can control mesh quality. I have the 'smooth' box checked but that made no difference in mesh quality and only seemed to mimic a smoother surface. See images below.

I'm not (anymore) a Max expert, but it looks like you need to collapse the stack in order to render it correctly in Max? Are you applying a MeshSmooth modifier?
