Hi all,
Does anybody have hard Octane benchmark numbers (or care to guess) on a GTX 780 Superclocked card vs 780ti one? Not the regular GTX 780 but the Superclocked version. I checked the benchmark thread but with so many pages I could not see a 780 Superclocked results.
I am contemplating getting 2 780s Superclocked once the 6GB version comes out, in case of course the speed difference between the above two is not above 10-15%.

those two cards differ in amount of cuda cores. And this is the only thing that makes a card faster or not.
So the over-hiper-clocked 780 will be slower than standard 780Ti because of smaller CUDA cores number.
The difference is mathematical. So do your math about the percentage of the cores amount difference and you'll know how much faster 780Ti is.

The amount of cores is not the only thing that makes them faster/slower. The speed of the clock on those cares is a huge consideration. Take a look at the 500 and 600 series cores and you'll see what I mean.slepy8 wrote:do some math and you'll discover the difference in time.

Also, each manufacturer will release the cards with different clock values. I have a 780Ti from Gigabyte it gives me a 8.25 in the benchmark scene, the 780Ti from EVGA gives something around 7.5

I suspected there's more to it than just number of CUDA cores per graphics card and that is why I asked the question.
And since 3GB vs 6GB VRAM won't affect much render speed (if everything else is identical of course)I wanted to know what the current 780 Superclocked can achieve so that I snatch one with 6GB once they get released.

@KAvorka - the 500 and 600 series had different architecture. 500 were faster but were much more power hungry.
However this mate asked about comparison between the same architecture so I made the subject simple.
As far as I know the "overclocking" doesn't affect the speed in rendering. It must be something else that makes one card faster than another in comparison you made.
I have ZOTAC AMP! edition of 780Ti and due to benchmarks - it;s the same as other 780Ti's. And it one of the most overclocked 780Ti on the market.

OP, I'm sure you could find this info in the Benchmark thread if you dug around a bit (I know it's long but you can search within a thread to help). I suppose I could do this test as I have both of these cards and by the same MFG but I only have the 1.20 demo at home and 1.50 standalone at work. Not sure if there is a difference in performance from demo to licensed?

I can't be positive, but from what I have seen and read here on the forums the clock speed makes a big difference. I believe I saw someone on the forums that overclocked their Titan and got a sizable speed increase in Octane.

If two MFG's make "X" card and use near identical core clock speeds then in theory they should perform fairly close to each other. Of course there will be some differences based off how each MFG dials in their cards.slepy8 wrote:@haknslash - ??

If I were shopping for 780's soon I would hold out for the 6 GB model as you've said. I just missed the EVGA "Step-Up" upgrade program to upgrade my home EVGA 780 Superclocked 3GB to the 6GB version for the difference in cost!

In the Netherlands I have just found one salepoint yet that give a price for the 780-6gb and it is 720 euro;
which is more expensive then I thought it would be (about 550 euro)
Therefor the Titan is 25% more expensive with 900 euro, but has 29% more renderpower... when doing the math of multiplying cudacores with clock speed (to compare I chose both not OC-ed). Therefor I would suggest Titan over 780... At least for the prices I can get them in my place.
Maybe you can find 780-6gb cheaper and get more worth the money in ratio for speed.
