i suggest you leave the swimming pool as a normal specular water, with no bump. (there is no wind inside so no streaks / waves are needed)
in the jacuzi maybe add the same as now,
but make sure it's a specular materials with reflection = floattexturenode value 1.0 and you use the turbulence bump...

The waves or not waves discussion is a long one, it would only look like a flat mirror if the pool was not working (the water filter was off) otherwise even without people you would have ripples coming from a side of the pool. That's actually what they do in architectural photography for all those nice magazines for masturbatory purpouses (not my words, but actually a well known archies guild master words). Personally I find them lifeless and unnerving with that flatness.
But, on topic, not much need to make water look like water (that's the great thing of octane, if you tell the materials to behave like themselves... they do!!!), just set its IOR right (about 1.333), high specularity and low roughness (I think it's low now for more crispy reflects, I keep forgeting), the color can go any where from white to dark blue, althou in a interior swimingpool light blue -greenish should do for the chlorine. Add ripples or waves, or nothing, whichever you like best, and if you add them in the mesh the better.
Play with it and I'm sure you'll get nice results.
Cheers, and sorry for the grunt, just had this discussion this morning with some mates. (We didn't agree, and each one had an opinion)

Just a question: how come the flowerpots show a reflection, but their mirrored counterparts don't?

i think he's using directlighting, and the water looks like a glossy material to me...

Yep you should definitely either change the glossydepth if your're using directlighting or switch to pathtracing to fix the weird lack of reflections in the mirror.

Your render is a bit dark also for an interior shot, and try to render that water a little bit more appealing with nice colors and reflections.
Something along those lines ;)

it's better but still too dark. You should play with the exposure and f-stop settings.

the hot pixels (fireflies) will be dealed with when we get the beta 2.3 , in the mean time you should try the supersampling technique described here: http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... f=21&t=878
