a bit more of patience - they just had GTC & for sure a lot of things to deal with after such event. Pluss do have in mind the time difference - You're posting here while they might be spleeping..don't freak out if someone hasn't replied You question instantly - thier work is to code (eat & sleep sometimes too). Finally some details might not be finalised just yet..lucioing wrote:Hi!

Good to get some pricing info but I'm still at a loss as to what a 'first release' means. Could someone from Otoy please clarify this?Seekerfinder wrote:In theory, there is no difference between a first release and a release candidate (with possibly only one of the promised features). In practice, there is.abstrax wrote:We are aiming for a first release in April.Seekerfinder wrote:Wow!
Is there a rough timeframe for the release date?
Thanks,

So please clarify Marcus, are we talking first release candidate, or first release. And (to avoid any confusion) would first release have all the features - i.e. is it a first release of version 2 that you are aiming to release in April?
Also, when will pricing be revealed?
Can't wait!
Seeker
Thanks,
Seeker

About network...
Does it means that I can work on my Mac and render on a pc over the network?
I think so. Now, what I have to buy? A pc license of standalone?
Thank you
L.
This is something of a bug bear with me because each computer needs a standalone and a plugin licence. A slight discount is offered if you buy three or more licenses of each at the same time. No discount is offered if you add more licences to the first one as you obtain more computers.
So unless OTOY has a new policy concerning networked computers then a full price standalone and plugin licence may be necessary for each computer on the network. For 3 or more networked computers a small discount may apply as long as you buy 3 licences at once. We'll have to wait for an announcement to see if this is actually the case.
If network licenses do cost less then it kind of calls into question why it was necessary to pay full price for licenses for a second computer because networking wasn't possible at the time.

I could be called a starving artist, as clients are very rare around here. So, the affordable price is also a second very good surprise for a Blender user !
If I were not so late on my sleep time, I would run through the town to express my joy !

So for network rendering.
I have two computers, one has a 590 (my main one) and the other has 2 x 580s,
If i hook these computers up (being able to access the public folders from each)
Would i be able to use all graphics cards power on one?
I havent really gotten into network rendering and seems how octane will have it,
it would be interesting to see how octanes workflow is on it?

You don't have to "hook up" the computers via some public folder, just being on the same LAN is sufficient. Octane will make sure that it distributes all the necessary data.radiant wrote:So for network rendering.

It works with an Octane master (the standalone or the plugin) and several Octane slaves. All the GPU's of the slaves will be available to the master. In your case the master would have 1 x 590 and 2 x 580s.
This was shown at GTC last year, rendering an animation via the max plugin using 125 GPUs.
cheers,
Thomas
