Just ask nvidia to upgrade their hardware for free !!! thanks octane team for this awesome v2.0 ( at first glance I tought it was a fake )
Great software, and listening to Customer needs. ( by the way I need render pass !!! )
Enjoy your meal Jimstar.
How many OR users have 4 x Titans or Ti's? The whole point of OR was to create an affordable GPU renderer not some exclusive highend product for commercial studios that hope to render on the cheap.

For those who feel the need to show their gratitude and part with lots of cash, why wait for v2? There's always the donate button. ;)

Well ... I now wait for the update price personally. I'm in Spectralis' boat ... a hobby person. I do not have "projects, that paid 1000 time sover". I went for Octane to have an advanced GPU renderer for hobbydom, to be a bit ahead of where blender cycles currently is at etc. Money IS an issue. That said: No, I certainly do not mind paying the developers. But I found the separation of feature sbetween 1.x and 2.x a bit strange. Theres very basic features in 2.x.

Anyway: No reason to scream without knowing th eupgrade prices ... if they're below 50% of what the original costed, I might consider upgrading.

i am a bit tired of all the hobbyists complaining about prices for updates.. really.. this is not blender. otoy is running a business, like i do. they should get paid properly, like i do. i expect octane to have all the features i need to do my daily work and i am ready to pay for that. if you cant afford an update -> use blender. octane saves me so much time, it pays itself within 2 days.

@otoy.. please consider including UDIM support, AOVs and other useful serious production features in 2.x and feel free to charge me whatever you think is reasonable.

This "I want it all, I want it now for no money" attitude already annoys me and I'm not even an Otoy developer...

Great News!

Will Object Motion Blur also support Motion Blur created by vertex transformation?

+1

Octance paid for itself on the first job I used it since I didn't have to send my stuff to a render farm.

And +1 for UDIM support, that would be very useful.

Ok. So after reading all the comments so far there are 2 main parties and I feel like making a resume of all the discussions going on:

1. First Party: Professionals
- making good amounts of money out of using Octane.
- made workflows around octane limitations
- They don't care about upgrade price too much or not at all
- they agree devs need to eat
- they say octane is cheaper compared to competing solutions

2. Second Party: Hobbyist,Students, Small Freelancers.
- They do care about price.
- Only use octane from time to time
- They expect good output out of the software they purchase(features, speed whatever)
- They see the fact that octane didn't see much development during past 3-4 years even if license is cheaper

3. My opinion:
- Yes, devs need to eat
- Features are not exciting(welcomed yes) since they should been developed at least 2 years ago. People were purchasing all this time yet nothing was really being developed(devs were eating without results)
- Octane is an amazing render but until v2 lacked a lot of features. Still lacks render passes(I can't think right now of a developed render that lacks them.). As for myself I won't be purchasing anything until features are on par with other software out there.
- Price is important when considering an upgrade.
- Licenses seems cheaper then competition but in truth is about same price. Why? A good number of render engines have a more expensive standalone but free plugin. With octane you pay a lot for both. Did I mention it doesn't have some free render nodes licenses? You have to pay for a license for each computer in your network.
- The fact that VRAM is a limitation is quite an issue. For more complex projects it makes render nodes useless if the lowest GPU has only 1 GB of ram and you can't load the textures.
- Looking forward for the actual upgrade price.

Just my 2 cents.
