Hi

A couple of screenshots showing some Octane 2 features.

If anyone has good dynamic hair props they can provide - that would help get some of the settings sorted out. Also, if you have any displacment mapped props, pls send them to me (assuming they are freebies).

Paul

This is will a pretty simple shader. I can image people using SSS or absorption shaders for stunning results.

I hope you don't misunderstand me here Paul but I think pretty much everybody knows, that the whole "You need the standalone in order for the plug-ins to work"-story is not true.
Excuse me for being outspokenly critically here, but since there is a demo version of the plug-in working just fine without the standalone being installed, the case is pretty clear here, don't you think?

Don't get me wrong - I don't regret my purchase of OctaneRender - I just think that the price tag was a bit hefty to begin with, considering that the inclusion of displacement mapping, hair strand rendering and motion blurring are all features that are usually available straight out of the box when you purchase a cad program let alone a rendering engine...
It's not like these technologies were only introduced 2 years ago and need incredible researching in order to be implemented into an existing software structure. I'm not judging anybody in the programming team - I think they're (particularly you, Paul) doing a fantastic job.

I just can't help myself but think that we were charged for a mere beta version considering we have to pay again for features which should've been implemented right from the start.

Again - this is not critique aimed directly at anybody personally - it's just my general opinion about the sales strategy and value-for-money policy of Otoy here...
(And yes - I know that other rendering engines are usually priced much higher than Octane - but then again - they include standard features like displacement mapping and motion blurring right from the start)

We can debate these points, or I can work on implementing Octane2 features into the plugins, but there is not time for both :-)
