Can anyone give me a hint for creating a thin curtain material?

Thanks,

I would try using a diffuse material with Transmission at about 0.8 and maybe opacity set to 0.99. This will let light scatter and hit your curtain while letting some light pass through. For best results, use a fine texture of canvas or fibers for the transmission value, this will give the appearance of tiny threads in the structure. Post some pictures!

also play a bit with fall off texture - depending on a fabric, this will come handy.

Try this:

Make sure your curtain is shelled (has thickness).

Diffuse Material.

Diffuse:

Mix material>Falloff
-Image texture 01 - Fabric A (gamma 2.2)
-Image texture 02 - Fabric A (gamma 1.0)

Transmission:
-Image texture (or float image texture) Fabric A Opacity* map

Bump (optional):
-Float Image Texture - Fabric A Opacity map

Medium (if you want it to glow in the sun):
-Scatter(Schlick Phase)>Scale 1 - 0.1 (may have to play with this number)

*Black and white Opacity version of Fabric A with visible weave works best.

Hope this helps!

best,
O

ps. My opinion only. Use at your own risk!
