I FIGURED IT OUT!!!

Creo 2.0 exports OBJ files with a space at the end of the material name before the newline in the material file, but no space in the obj file.

Most importers strip the space, but apparently octane must "see" the space and think they're two different materials.

I now have a hack-around and all I have to do is strip out all trailing spaces from the material file, and poof! works a treat!

Hopefully this is a super simple enough fix for Otoy, and they can implement in the next update! :D

Edit:

What I meant was...

When creo exports wavefront obj format...

In the MTL file the material names have a trailing space. Easy enough to use a text editor to strip these trailing spaces. Though the importer ought to strip all trailing spaces from all lines IMO.

The exported OBJ does not have trailing spaces. So on import I get 2x of every material, but the worst part is that the materials connected to the geometry are not the materials that are colored, the are placeholders...

The work around works great. Just open the MTL file and strip trailing spaces, save and import to octane! Boom! Done.
