Tokyo-based Digital Frontier have released a free implementation of Alembic for Max, which allows to export and import using the open source Alembic file interchange format, jointly developed by Sony Pictures Imageworks and Lucasfilm. The format is designed to handle massive animation data sets and uses dramatically less storage space.
