Love this! Great motion and expression from the robot. I also really like that toy he's dragging around.
Awesome work.
best,

@voon
In fact he is dragging his new pet-toy around to show everybody. But nobody cares...
Apparently, it is a remark I got sometimes, so I figured out that I lost the point of the scenario somewhere.
Shame, but it will be better in the next movie with this little guy.
Thanks again for all the good vibes

I loved it!!!
how were you able to achieve the volumetric lights from his eyes, and the shadows plus reelections that extend all the way under the chairs?
the compositing is so well done

Hi everybody,
and Thanks for the kind words.
@solomon: The volumetric lights are done with a cube wrapping the entire scene. Then I apply a medium scattering to it, and Voilà... OF course, it is a litle bit more difficult than that, but there are very good how-to's on the forum to explain it in detail. But it is very simple.
For the reflections, I did a different pass, with only the ground with a full reflective shader (glossy). And the shadows too.
The compositers did an amazing job on all the shots yes. Let's get them a round of applause.
But Octane also, hehehe
And yes, I did want kind of a sad end. Life is sad, the sooner he gets it, the better he will live.

Awesome work. Definitely top row.
Nothing to add - I'm not even close to being in your league. Bravo!

Congrats amazing animation and short..
can u please explain to me a bit more in depth how did u do the reflections and shadow passes, separately, and how did u composite them?
even a very short/rough tutorial?
i've tried to isolate these 2 things in the past but to no success...

@ xxdanbrowne :
Thank you very much. Many people worked on this project. Kind of several leagues working together...
@ nildoe:
THanks for the encouragements. To put it simple. For the shadows, I have a simple scene with only the model and an octane light replacing the light of the backplate. I get a diffuse white material on everything, and then I play with the power of the environement (white also) to get more or less contrast on the shadows. I burn the image if I need to, and I get the shadows on white background
Using directlighting, ambiant, diffuse specular and glossy to 1. It is fast you have many ways to customise it. THen it is composited in multiply mode and graded.
For the reflection, it is the same, the model with his color shaders, and a plane with glossy super reflective shader. THen it composited. I get the reflection on black background. Screen or whatever is best mode, and it is done.
It is a really DIY trick but it works every time, on every rendering engines existing on earth.

Ouais, il y a d'autres frenchies qui sont à Octane, chouette! Merci beaucoup
