This whole idea coming from Bicket!

hello octaners

I have to say,I am waiting a very long time,since 2010,but octane still can't support render region,which makes my whole work flow so hard!!

Every time my client said "how about let's remove those tea cup on the desk" or something like "please change this red wallpaper to a green one"!!! Yeah that's a hell in octane render,so I have to say f.v.v.k me T_T, again?? I have to re-render the whole image again!~~WTF....

===============================================================

Well someone may say , yeah u can create a plane object with enough segs,and then delete one of those segs to make a tiny hole,so that u can put a black diffuse material to this plane,and still can get the "region render"~~~BUT,u know what,I did this before,many times,and I only get 1%-3% speed improvement(yeah not much help)...so this "black diffuse option" still rendering the whole scene(altho it looks like a region render).

The worst part?? not much render speed improvement???? Not exactly~~~The worst part is if u render with realtime DOF effect,and then add a black diffuse plane..brabrabra....Guess what,u will get a really strange render result when a plane standing in front of the camera!!! so IMHO,this "plane fake region render" doesn't work well~~~

===============================================================

But now,things changed,we can make a real region render(altho it has to do some math~~) But my English sucks,and my math sucks too....Until one day,someone comes out with a smart option,so there u are~~~

Thanks to Bicket,now we just simply type some numbers and we have real region render!

===============================================================

I just make a simple video to show you how it works! Altho it takes time to type numbers,which is boring~~but still it gets the work done~~

Thanks again Mr.Bicket !!! I wish we have a "thumb up" button in this forum!!

Works fine with 3ds max and standalone, and it should work in c4d,LW,maya,etc...

Blender doesn't~~~ Because blender support octane region render!! yeah Blender rocks~~~

- hi, can you do like a really short version of the workflow, I don't really need region render so not as motivated as you :) (I just do a stupid zoomed in second window in 3dmax, and just switch to that.. doesn't bother me a lot), but I could give it a go at some scripting, it does seem easy to implement, if you can do it manually

- only thing I know I don't have info for is the render window settings and render setup settings, usually you can read what you do in the maxscript listener, but not everything like those preview window settings - so maybe some more info on that from octane team (finally Karba should be able to plugin that in no time, but I guess this is more of a workaround than a solution, probably because of post pro tools)

P.S. in order to properly play embedded video use the link like this (without s in https) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHtzllaoops
(vimeo uses something like remove the www. in front or add.. anyaway..)

Hey gents - I don't have time to read all that - or watch video today... but one thing I do know, which you may need to consider is this: We have a "sorta/kinda" region render in the Octane Lightwave plug... but what I found is that without the ability for Juanjo (plug dev) to get/make a cropped version of the full image vignette, you are screwed if you do not render both the original and the cropped version sans vignette. Presumably, this would be the case for most Post Processing fx as well... just tossin' this out there. Maybe it is not an issue using the above method...

Edit: Of course, I am talking about going back to render a chunk that some a-hole client changed, so that it can be pasted in PSD with no fuss - and not talking about test renders, which is another use for Region Render.

.. yep, I mentioned that problem - vignetting is not going to work (workaround, do it all in ps without post pro in octane)

- and please make a much much shorter video or a pdf
