When using DAZ Studio to setup scenes for rendering in Octane (currently using OBJ export) I have to exit DAZ Studio to free up video memory in order to make space before importing in Octane. I'm curious about how the plugin within DAZ Studio works in this regard, whether the video memory used for 3D view still takes away from what I have available to render. The way I'm picturing it working has all of the textures essentially loaded to video memory twice (once for 3D view and once for rendering), and while I'd like to use the plugin this wouldn't work with my current video card setup.
I am willing to be proven wrong but I have not noticed any such issue with the Octane for Daz Studio plug-in. I've just opened the plug-in (with a scene I am playing with already loaded in DS, admittedly not huge!) and I have VRAM memory (used: 0MB / usable: 3847MB / total: 4096MB).

thanks linvanchene for the breakdown;
one additional thing to save a little bit on performance and vram for octane, when working with the plugin is, to tweak the ogl settings in daz; i.e. turning antialiasing off (speed), and setting texture resources to "performance" (vram)...
