I'm running dual 2GB nVidia GeForce GTX 680s on a system based around the Intel i7 at 4.2GHz with dual monitors. DS performs normally until I open the render viewport. EVERYTHING slows down at that point. Scenes with only half the objects I normally use are using up all the memory. Is the 'render priority' setting working? Are the textures being converted to a higher resolution?

ugh. So I updated to the new plugin this morning and it crashed when editing materials. I updated to the lastest plugin patch and when I open that old file and start to edit materials it crashes again.

ill wait a few days and let you figure this all out.

render priority is working, textures are not changed in any way. nor am i aware of anything that would eat vram for nothing. can you send me screenshots of the textures tab and the system from a point where you expect to see much less usage? since you asked how to get the old version back; you may grab the zip from here and copy over: http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=36335; in addition, if you like to keep both, there is some advice in the 2nd post of this topic...

Eureka!

Most of my troubles went away when I unchecked 'Automatic materials updates after content loads'. If I just set up a scene and then create missing materials it works fine. And yes t_3, there is a noticeable improvement in render times.

It certainly doesn't like loading previous scene saves. If I try to load an old scene that took 20 minutes to render, it pretty much slows down the whole computer to a crawl and estimates a 3+ hour render. Wow.

this gives me something to look at; in addition to what UruMike posted yesterday; am going to re-check with older saves if this can cause mismatches...

I've been having the computer not being able to wake up the monitor since this morning. Usually the monitor goes to sleep and then the computer but this morning the computer was awake with the monitor asleep and when I tried to wake up the monitor by moving the mouse or touching the keyboard nothing happened. Had to reboot the computer. Then just now as I was eating breakfast the same behavior happened. Only upgrade I've made lately is DAZ Studio Octanerender. Still running Nvidia driver version 327.23.

weeel, had you daz running studio and/or the plugin rendering over night? during the 2nd time?
at least octane/plugin does not mess with the drivers; they might crash them during rendering because of usually hw/heat related issues but nothing much more...

I had DAZ Studio open but not rendering. The second time it was closed. I'm about to upgrade my GTX 580s drivers to GeForce 332.21 Driver, the latest. See if that takes care of the problem.
