Hello guys,
I'm playing with Octane for some days now and I need to be highlighted on the linear workflow.
I have read some informations on the forum, but I'm still confused about the correct settings for 3ds max.
I was a Vray user, so I used the settings you can see in the attached files.
(When I need to send a JPG, BMP or PNG, I set up the output gamma of max at 2,2. When I need an .EXR or HDR, I set it up at 1.)
So my questions are (in the case I want a jpg output) :
- Do I leave the 3ds Max settings like these I'm using on vray ?
- In the camera "Imager" do I need to raise the gamma from 1 to 2,2 ?
- In the RGB Image in the material editor, do I need to raise also the gamma from 1 to 2,2 ? (if I use a jpg/PNG)
Thank you in advance for your answers, and sorry for my engilsh !

umm.. this is how I started using it lately.. disable 3d max gamma correction (or it will add to octane ones after you "port to max framebuffer" , switch to 2.2 gamma in octane render settings, and to linear in response.. you get better shadows, increase exposure..
.. or maybe use the octane gamma 1.0 and then port to max framebuffer (I use the first technique anyway)
- other colour respones generate some gamma anyway, I am still on a lookout gamma workflows / the theory should be - if you're going to work on this footage in post pro, keep it in 1.0 .. well..

There is a tutorial on this in the tutorial section..basically (if I understood correctly) octane is already setup for working in linear workflow...so u shouldnt have to tweak anything.
Can someone enlighten us on this?

with Octane you have to enable gamma 2.2 in Max control panel
deactivate material gamma
activate color selector picker
If you don't turn on color selector gamma you will get a linear ramp

how can i fix this part ?
So for correct linear workflow you have to disable Max gamma settings, set the gamma to 2.2 in the octane camera and switch to linear response?
Can anybody from otoy confirm this?
