When I'm working on a project sometimes materials disappear from Genesis clothing or scene props randomly. In my current project Genesis is wearing a gold collar. I have used this collar in other projects so I know that Octane DS can apply the gold material correctly but in this project the gold colour has disappeared randomly. I think this happens sometimes after I move or try to pose figures and props.
I've tried reloading the collar material jpg but this didn't work. "Reload maps from disk" didn't work. I tried deleting the collar and then reloading it but this didn't work. I then deleted the collar, saved the project and closed DS. I then opened DS again, reloaded the project and then applied the collar to Genesis again but it still won't return to gold.
This problem doesn't occur when rendering with Reality.
Disappearing materials keep happening randomly and it's driving me crazy! How can I solve this?

Does anyone have a clue why these materials randomly disappear and how to solve this? I'm trying to finish a project and this is causing no end of problems. I'd be grateful for any help or advice.

If you are using an exported script of some kind then it could be the same problem that I am getting with Blender. The format of the .OCS has changed radically since 1.20 and exporter scripts are struggling to produce the correct format. Or I could just be barking up the wrong tree.

Thanks for your reply. I'm loading clothing and props from my DS runtime without changing any of the materials so I don't think it's related but I might be wrong.steveps3 wrote:If you are using an exported script of some kind then it could be the same problem that I am getting with Blender. When this has happened in the past I've had some success deleting and reloading the item that has lost its materials but not in every case when, no matter how many times try deleting and reloading, OR will not load the material. It's as if a glitch has caused OR to lose its connection to the original material for that object. I wish there was a reliable way to solve this problem.

This sounds like the same problem I had. In your Octane Render pane, under System, what're your texture counts like? I found my materials would "disappear" (go grayscale) randomly when I had passed over the RGB texture limit for CUDA.
Reality and 3Delight don't use CUDA so they don't have the same restrictions on texture counts.
If you're over the texture limit, try freeing up some until you get under the limit and you should be fine.

Thanks for your suggestion. I never thought to look at this. Maybe that's why the problem keeps occurring randomly. I'll load up the project and report back.thomasachild wrote:This sounds like the same problem I had. In your Octane Render pane, under System, what're your texture counts like?
