Hatak orbiting some un-named planet.
Unsure how to get the atmosphere volumetric so I'm not really happy with the way the clouds wrap round the planet.

@tharso: thanks. Not there yet I think.

So for those who are interested: I took a completely different tack. I decided to use a flat cylinder with limited depth and then use a photoshop gradient image in the opacity slot. It worked but it wasn't uniform in a circular way. So then I was browsing the forum and someone else was doing something with the falloff node in a diffuse texture. So I tried that and I got this.... I think it looks a lot better (though still not perfect.. atmospheric edge needs to shine just a little bit. Not sure how to make it shine...) Next up: greebles on the spaceship so it looks a little less like lego...

This is a bit better still. But the edge is partially erased in post in photoshop with the history brush. I wish I knew how to do this with the falloff node in octane...

Hatak with glossy surface and greebles. Pyramid living space with gold color from livedb.
More or less happy with the planet but wish there was a way to do a gradient effect of the atmosphere fading away into nothing at the edge of space without having to do it in photoshop...

I think this'll do it. Time to hit the sack.
