HI All

I can not get any shadows to show up when i use the background image function.
I am not talking about the environment light image, I am talking about the "background image" for the view port like it was demoed in the 1.20 release youtube video with the car casting shadows to the background image.
I have tried to turn on and off the alpha channel and alpha channel shadows but I do not get any shadows at all...

Some help pleas!!!!

The background image does nothing other than act as a background image. It is not a source of light or anything like that.

Hi Claus,

For this you need setup a plane to simulate the floor with a diffuse material with the "matte" option ticked.
The matte option will make the plane see-through and catch shadows from the car.
Then you can load the background image that you are going to use in post, into octane, so that you will have a guide for getting the positioning correct.
(note the background does not get saved with the render, it is purely to help you position your scene correctly.)

If you want the "background" to provide lighting, you are talking about an HDRI environment:

Thanks
Chris.
