Hy all!
The second image is made by us in Octane render, the first made by someone else I do not know in what kind of software...

missing glossiness on the wine bottle, or so it seems in this size..
- I absolutetly hate all people cutouts in probably every rendering I have ever seen ( I don't know why, probably because it always looks to damn fake..) maybe go for silhouettes ..
- looks good apart for those glossies, maybe a bit on the plants
- and a bit too many identical object rotations and alignments, just rotate and move everything by 1 %

In terms of render, its AO right? I dont think this is the best choose for this kinda image. Try Diffuse mode 4, it will look definitly more realistic - and it will eventually power up the design
About the environment, it lacks some randomness in my opnion. You can clearly see ctrl+c ctrl+v tables and chairs, objects on table also. Materials should be correctly assigned (glass bottle, plant, chrome, etc). I do agree with acc24ex. People are looking fake and flat. Better not to have them.
About the design, I do prefer the first one. Its more clean. But you can change our opninion rendering with another kernel, and making some great changes! Good luck!

- The cutouts are a bad idea. It works for some. I did not notice them at first; when I did it was a question of: why are they standing only in the background?
- The first image is warm and inviting.
- The second image looks incorrectly exposed and cold: it has a green/blue tint that is fluorescent in nature.
- The second image looks arrayed, i.e., done on a computer. Goes with the cold above.
- The second image lacks space as 'felt' in the first image. No dance floor.
- The second image presents much darker than the first.

- the design is fine - just move everything a bit and try avoiding people cutouts, they look like they are stuck on there - maybe just change them to transparent black or white..Arhitectu wrote:

Either the plates are too big or the tables too small relative to the places - not a lot of room for arms shoulders. Chairs might be annoyingly close together with people moving around too back to back that is. Chairs/tables look impossibly regimented as arrays. Might want to vary just slightly to ease the eye into more realism. Plants and bottles too.
In regard of more realism the table edge/cloth looks very sharp/hard. Attention to small details like that help sell the render better. Materials need a little more love as said. Agree too about the use of cut out people and the same people...
What is the purpose of those track lights on the ceiling? Also disco? Doesnt seem ballroom.. Why don't the down lights all make a scalloped edge on the ceiling beams? BTW one chandelier appears different metal from the others?
Kind of a mix of decor styles/elements to my eyes. I dont know that it works especially well. Slats, chandeliers, neon-like sign, cold lighting. Those wall panels might be an interesting feature tying in better with the chandelier swirls and chair fabrics - at the moment all a bit different - but they avoid doing something feature like with the large blank wall. Dunno really...not sure it has a unified theme. I don't know how much money they are spending but it looks ever so slightly B grade/eclectic IMHO.
Hope those crits help in some way and Merry Xmas.

My 5 cents:
1/ Lighting is too even. This looks like the wedding is over and it is time to clean. Dim the downlights and change their temperature to something like 2700-3000k. Darken the lighting in the whole room.
2/ The brightest spots should be 1/ head table, 2/ dancefloor, 3/ tables.
3/ All your glass needs more reflection/specular highlights. People like shiny things.
4/ The cutout people need their gamma brightened and make sure those planes are facing (perpendicular) to your camera. The white in the cutout people should be as bright as the table cloths. That should be your guide.
5/ Taste is very subjective, so no comment on that. ;^)
Attached is a real quick and dirty photoshop blast just to illustrate how targeted lighting makes all the difference in these artificial lighted scenes.
Hope these are constructive and helpful!
Best,
O
