I was lookin' through some of my files & found one interesting test I've done a while ago =) it made me smile =) and I though, why not to share it with You Guys =)

..remember I was testing the way to get nice low key studio setup, trying different methods of lighting & on my way playing around with tweaked HDRs a thought crossed my mind:

Why that default 3dsmax teapot is shaped like this? Am I alone that that don't really see the it's shape being..beautiful? (though it's personal). After a while I've read some info around the web putting down the reasons why it looks like that, why we see it at all.. - it's famous, what to say more =)

Then I found it's original inspiration: The teapot was made by Melitta in 1974 and originally belonged to Martin Newell and his wife, Sandra..

So, disassembled original (Utah) teapot, scaled few details &..here it is! =) now I have something that at least for my eye looks a bit better for a test dummy =)

cheers

porcelain/ceramics are really hard, try adding a few spotlights along with the hdr and maybe a few more objects where the camera should be to catch reflections
also the black part where the pot touches the ground shouldn`t be there I think, try scaling up the rayepsilon to remove it?
overall its a piece, I really like the mood ;)
