Howdy!

was wondering if there was a way to use materials made with the standalone version on my HD in the DS plugin & the other way around?
And if there is a way to dock the octane tabs?
And if it is possible to navigate in the octane viewport like in the demo?
ow and also if running DS uses a lot of vram compared to the standalone?

Thanks :)
Elele.

not yet; it is expected to come with octane 1.5

no (not yet); actually i have never thinked about making this possible, but will make my mind about pros/cons ;)

i guess you mean the video with the pool table; i use a spacepilot for camera navigation - highly recommended for everyone having some extra space on the desktop and doing 3d a lot. not the small knob imo, but the bigger ones.

afaik its negligible; ds/ogl needs some vram of course, and if you want to optimize it for octane, you might turn the texture quality down to low in the daz studio preferences (as textures do of course need most of what studio consumes of the cards vram)...

Thanks :)

How can I save a material locally and is there a browsing window for my local materials (with thumbnail previews)? I only get the livedb browser.
I'd also like to know if there is a local material browser for the standalone?
Maybe should have asked this first: is there a manual or guide somewhere for the DSplugin?

The Octane of DS window (the one obtained by hitting F12) WILL dock, just drag it toward an edge of the screen as you would any floating pane within DS. You'll (eventually if the edge does not already contain a docked pane) see the edge change colour (default yellow) and at this point the pane will dock if you release the mouse button. Usual click on context menu to top-right of pane to select undock.
The render window (which looks more like a standard Windows (in my case) dialog window) does not dock.

Hmm, I can't seem to dock any tabs anymore in DS. Also now when I make a tab undockable it opens in a windows explorer window (the kind with the little red "x" in the upper right corner to close the window). Was that always the case? I never noticed that before and I used to rearrange my tabs all the time in DS.

this is imo since ds4.5 was released; you can undock tabs just by grabbing the tab and moving it away from its parent pane, by selecting undock from the pane menu it becomes a window; afair you can revert this also from the pane menu. imo there is a setting in the preferences where you can tell ds from not undocking panes into windows.

just to clarify: the tabs of the octane plugin are not undock-able, the plugin main pane (and the nodegraph editor/nge) behave like any other ds pane...

Tabs are fixed, something changed in the preferences.

Is it possible to have a browser window for the materials on my computer, like the octane live db?

not yet, mainly because there .ocs/.ocm formats that the standalone uses are not available for the plugins (i.e. to exchange mats). as soon this becomes available i plan to do a disk based browser/manager for such disk saved materials, in first place for the daz plugin, but it may become a standalone application also...

Other dumb questions :)
How can I add nodes in the node graph editor? EDIT:nevermind, found the popup window about 0.356 seconds after hitting the post button :?
How come the octane render tab is missing some parameters that are available in the NGE tab? (like emission & medium for a diffuse material)

BTW: nice job adding the names at the connectors, very handy :D
