I'm about to order a supercomputer for my office, designated to octane. We are currently four people using octane from time to time, so the idea is to find a solution using a remote desktop. What is the best setup for this? Hopefully the price shouldn't be to big of an issue.

hi, Etwas.

well, the questions isn't entirely clear =) You're askin' 'bout the software or hardware? =)

if on the software then don't use RDC, but step for VNC as CUDA doesn't seem to work (& there are other solutions too)..

as for rig, it actually depends on Your budget, needs and so.. - advise You to read through forum, this might help to get idea..if You have somewhat more specific question - drop a line. In that way Guys could help You a bit more =)now it's a bit hard to get everything from A.. to Z.. without knowing what You already know.

cheers

Hi, build you system around a 3-4 PCIe slot mainboard get 1200 watt power supply and a Big Tower.
Depends on you budget put 1-4 Titan in it or wait for the new GTX 780Ti 12 GB.
An i7 CPU is ok. You need a lot of RAM if you use these 12 GB cards, ~RAM has to be 2x VRAM.
As glimpse mention take VNC, some user use Teamviewer.

Cheers, mib.

I use team viewer, works perfectly. I am always remoting into my coworkers comp or my own from home to work in Octane. You wont notice any lag (if your internet connection is good) and is easy to setup.

8 Titans with 2 PSUs will do a good job.

And is it two times the total VRAM of all cards combined or just the maximum of a single card?
Two times the maximum of a single card.
During voxelizing (BVH building) you need more RAM as the scene need in GPU VRAM when the scene finally loaded.
May the Otoy guys have exact values for it.

Cheers, mib.
