The titan contains only one GPU and one 6 GB large memory pool. If you're really after lots of memory, it might be worth it to wait for the GTX 780 Ti with 12 GB (which also renders faster than the Titan in Octane ).

The titan contains only one GPU and one 6 GB large memory pool. If you're really after lots of memory, it might be worth it to wait for the GTX 780 Ti with 12 GB (which also renders faster than the Titan in Octane ).

i second this. We have 12 titans in our department rendering Octane. Even with that, very involved scenes take a long time. I can't imagine ever needing 12Gb a card with Octane (we have very involved scenes and never get close to reaching 6Gb), BUT, if you want top notch, the 12Gb 780Ti is the way to go and will probably still be cheaper than the Titans. I know we plan on upgrading a few of our cards to their new flagship, whatever that may be.

By "very involved" do you refer to polygons or things the CPU has to perform like motions, etc. It would appear that large textures aren't responsible if you are not using all your memory. Also, how long (per frame) is a "long time"?

There isn't a 12Gb 780 Ti and I'd bet a lot on there never being one. That was an early article, I'm not even sure where they got the 12Gb from!

I'm tossing up the idea of going with a few 780 Ti cards but slightly concerned that I'll end up wanting more VRAM further down the line. On the upside, the Ti will drop the Titan pricing down (I hope )

Is an overclocked 780ti going to make much of a difference compared to a regular 780ti? How relevant is overclocking in terms of performance in Octane? I am planning to get two of those but I still wonder if it's worth getting an overclocked or a standard one. Anybody?

We tried overclocking our Titans. We decreased our render times by a couple seconds per frame at most. Not worth it I don't think.

Not agree, just remember GTX 580 3Gb never had its price too much down before disappear from shops and replaced directly by a new model...

Thank you! I've been trying to figure that out for a few days now. Appreciate the feedback! I assume the fact the 780ti is only 3GB won't do much of a harm as I mostly do motion graphics, right? Any reason to worry about this GPU's memory? I rarely operate with textures larger than 2-3K pixels. Sorry for the silly questions, I've never dealt with gpu rendering before.
