Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new version of OctaneRender™ for Maya®
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2012, 2013, 2013.5 / 32-bit & 64-bit and 2014 64-bit on MS Windows operating systems.

Notes regarding features/functionality

OctaneRender™ for Maya® implements almost full functionality of OctaneRender™ standalone inside Maya®.

COMPATIBILITY AND OCTANERENDER STANDALONE REQUIREMENT

To run OctaneRender™ for Maya®, you need to also have an activated OctaneRender™ Standalone copy activated on the machine you wish to install the plugin onto.
You cannot purchase and use only the Maya plugin and use it without also owning an activated copy of OctaneRender™ Standalone on your machine
.

HOW TO PURCHASE LICENSES

Go to our online shop here: http://render.otoy.com/shop/

If you do not own an OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition License yet:
You can purchase both the OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition and the OctaneRender™ for Maya® Edition as a reduced price bundle, purchase the bundle priced at 359€

If you already own one or more OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition licenses you want to pair the plugin with:
Purchase an "OctaneRender™ for Maya® Beta License" priced at 199€

You can also purchase a 3, 5 or 10 pack of OctaneRender™ for Maya® licenses, just like OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition packs.

OCTANELIVE

Just like OctaneRender™ Standalone, the Maya® plugin product also needs an additional OctaneLive license and be activated on a machine.
This has to be done in the plugin interface panel in Maya, and is covered in the included PDF manual.
It can only be done after an OctaneRender™ Standalone license is already activated on the machine in question.

CHANGES AND FIXES SINCE LAST RELEASE:
  • Fixed IES file paths bug.
  • Big rework was made to make it running on Linux. So, report please if you will get some issues on this new Windows version...

hi,
motion blur feature is great.
Can I set camera up somewhere ?
When I work with z up in Maya, the orientation in the Octane viewport doesn`t fit anymore.
Any ideas?

Hey!

I just gotta say, it's really great how quick you guys are on releasing updates and bugfixes. Very impressive. This "test-version" did fix the issue we were having with the calling of the progressbar resulting in a crash, when rendering headless.

However, a new issue has occurred (of course).. When we run the following code:

Code: Select all

maya.cmds.octane(render=True, layer="fabric")
The only ourput we get is:

Code: Select all

Error: Octane: error occured in startRender().
Which doesn't really tell us all that much, and we've tried finding some higher verbosity-setting to no greater success. Any ideas?

Hi JimStar,

Finally got the chance to do some real work in this new version and it seems all the settings that shouldn't cause an IPR render to restart, like max samples, exposure (and most of the other octane imager settings) are now forcing the IPR render to restart from scratch.

Hi,
After our artist activated the Maya Octane license, he shut down the Maya. But then, after he opened the Maya again, somehow the license disappeared. As seen in the attachment, only the 'deactivate' button is enabled, but the username and password fields are empty. Moreover, he cannot access the LiveDB.

We also have another problem. When he assigned an Octane material to the mesh, the Maya became frozen.

Any solution for this ?

Many thanks.

It is normal. You will not see the login-password pair in user interface after the plugin was successfully activated. This is for your safety.

Please, before I can make some suggestions, I need very detailed explanation of what you do step by step, what you get on the screen after each step, and what you expect to see... Sorry, but I can't suppose what is going on from "he cannot access the LiveDB".;)

And please, install the last version. It is the version from this thread - 1.5 at the time.

Hi JimStar,
Thanks for the reply. According to him, he already activated it sucessfully (using this latest version). However, Maya crashed when he assigned the material to the mesh.

Here, I attach his step-by-step screenshots :

What for GPU do you have on this computer? What version of NVidia drivers?
Can you please enable the "Verbose mode" in Octane settings, and open the script editor before setting the material?.. In this case there may be some useful messages in script editor visible after it hangs...
