Weird topic and completely not monetarily sound perhaps.... but...

My Mac desktop is too old to run Nvidia cards even the mac built ones... I have a pretty decent PC that I could make into a mackintosh... (why when PC runs all the Adobe apps and maya and Octane... well humour me : > ))

Has anyone made a hackintosh on a nvidia complatible PC box so that the Mac Octane render see's the NIvidia cards in the PCI bus??

Just wondering?

Thanks

the guys at tonymacx have some pretty good guides&manuals for hackintoshs with fully working nvidia cards.
for me these setups turned out to be a pain in the ..
I got easily demotivated when working with bootloaders, dsdts, multibeast and so on ... just because it took me weeks of testing und finetuning.

I would also love to hear from others on this issue....

I've built 2 Hackintosh's. The first was Leopard and worked OK (it was the Hazard image) but when I put the NVidia card in, it died. Then I built a SL version, which worked very well until I updated something, and then I couldn't boot to it. I tried (many many hours) building a ML machine but failed (in the end I think my motherboard was too old). I was left with the impression that if you have the right hardware, this is all very easy. There are some pre-configured Motherbpoard/CPU combinations where you can just install ML and it's done. But if you have hardware that is outside these standards, you will need some pretty some tech skills to work it out.

The Mac seems to be target at the less technical user, but the latest guide to installing Mav - which is advertised as "It requires no experience" has a step in it "If using a Socket 1156 system without Rate Matching Hub (RMH) USB choose Legacy USB Support", which I think would require some technical expertise to understand! Another interesting one is "If you're installing on a recommended CustoMac desktop with AMI UEFI, the options are simple." And if you have trouble....."You can type the boot flags GraphicsEnabler=Yes, PCIRootUID=1, PCIRootUID=0, and npci=0x3000 by themselves or together in order to solve boot issues for older graphics cards and machines."

Also, building a Hackintosh often requires that you already have a Mac (in order to get Multibeast, Unibeast, Whatever beast configured).

In summary - I would gladly paid someone to build me a HackIntosh rather than go through the pain again :-)

Hi p3taoctane, what is if you run your PC as Octane "Server" and work remote from your Apple computer.
I use this sometimes from my Windows laptop to work on my Linux workstation with TigerVNC but work also with Teamviewer. If you have a Linux system it work over SSH too.
So easy working from the beach over internet.

Cheers, mib.

Thanks for all your input.
Sounds like Hackintoshes are not for teh faint of heart : > )

Remotely controlling it might be a lot easier :>)

Thanks to all... if I go down either road I'll let you know
