Octane uses standard Blender Node Editor (same place as you would do your Cycles materials for example).
Nothig so special about Octane.

Not sure what you mean. I don't have problems with the Node editor using Cycles.

Cycles and Octane are very different, and Blender tutorials don't tell you how to do how basic texturing, bump-mapping and such in Octane...

This is exactly why spending a half day or so in standalone is going to pay off in spades. And there is no shortage of Octane texturing toots. Go for it bro! Make us proud! ;)

And imho, anyone who uses Octane at all should really become at least somewhat familiar with standalone. There are some scenarios where standalone is f'n wicked fast - faster than your app you ultimately bought Octane for - that it will smoke said app any day of the week. For instance, if you needed to bang out multiple versions of a product with many different textures, lighting setups and angles... Octane standalone will leave it in the dust, provided you know your way around. It truly is built for speed. In other words, they did not just build standalone to develop the plugs - and clearly some serious thought went into it... It definitely has its uses.

Well, I tried the Standalone a few times and it scares me a little because it's so much more intuitive than the plugin, with lots of controls everywhere - and then you go back to the Blender plugin and can't find a thing...

So I think I'll prefer to find out where everything is hidden in the plugin. And it's no easy task to find tutorials for that.

But I'll get there.
