speed: 780 is about 30% faster than 580. Details here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gef ... 16-26.html

difference: usually GTX 780 goes with 3GB and has more max textures

price: GTX 780 here is less than double a GTX 580.

Only time I would think twice in your situation is when you get hands on a fully functional used GTX 580 below 200 EUR or if pricing is the major issue overall.

My five cents hope it helps.

In terms of power consumption, wich PSU (watts) would you have to have when running:
a) 1 x GTX780
b) 2 X GTX580

All runing on i7 3930K?

Thanx!

For 2x580 and 3770 550W is min. provided you choose high end psu. 700W-800W is more than enough.

If I were you I'd buy 1200W-1500W for further 3-4 x TITANS if you plan to rebuild your system.
3090, Titan, Quadro, Xeon Scalable Supermicro, 768GB RAM; Sketchup Pro, Classical Architecture.

I was talking aboth 3930K...R U shure were talking aboth same CPU?
Looking at this calculation chart seems that 850W would MAYBE be sufficient...

I had 2x580 and it drew max 480W during rendering. (watercooled, overclocked,...)

Can two different cards be set for rendering eg. 1xGTX589 and 1xGTX680?

Yes, they can. But the amount of vram is set to the minimal of those.
