Hey to any blender users, I'm wondering if any of you have had much success exporting OBJ files from 2.5.2?

I seem to have very little trouble exporting from 2.49b, but when I try and export from 2.5.2, I get long export times, and it either stops responding and fails or takes forever to export and makes a file 4x the export of the 2.49 obj file, and the material export seems to fail.

Anyone else have this problem or a solution to it?

Using the 2.5.2 64bit build, but I've tried the32bit build with the same result, using win7 64bit.

Thanks

this has been reporte too, i think the OBJ export script in blender 2.5 is very bad.
maybe you should start a topic about it on the blender forums ?

um yeah I dont know why but 2.5 is a poor performer in some aspects and also I might mention for things like duplication of large meshes as well. I have raised this issue at BlenderArtists but unfortunately no one wants to discuss it. They dont want to discuss the rather scroll happy design of the new GUI either...

Last I heard it has something to do with the python 3.0 vs. 2.x (in earlier blender versions). They copied over most, if not all, of the scripts from previous versions without making sure that they worked 100%. This is why I typically use 2.49b for most things still.

Rather than version issues I think there is a fundamental design problem somewhere between the way python and C are working together now...but of course no one in the know is willing to talk...and I am afraid I dont know enough about programming to identify the technical reason myself ;)

Hmm, works fine here with 2.5 Rev: 28571 SVN and this output settings.
Don't work with alpha 1 or 2, there are to old, take your builds from graphicall.org.

Cheers mib

always seems to me that I get the feeling those builds aren't stable, can you point me to a good stable build for win7 x64?

Thx

Sorry, i don't use windows, but the latest builds are more stable than the builds before
and even more stable than alpha 2. Test it, only unzip and run, no installation is necessary.

I try to use the builds marked as BF (Blender Foundation) and avoid "Experimental" ones... (you can easily search for BF and Win7 in the home page). I agree with mib and find those builds to be very stable on OSX (at least as much as the "official" alphas). let's remember any 2.5 release is just an alpha BTW ;)
