I know a few people were having an issue where C4D would not complete animation renders. It was either hanging at a certain frame or just crashing. I may have found a solution that sounds too simple to be true: TURN OFF SCREEN SAVERS and any power management. Do not put any part of your machine to sleep during a render.
I am running R14 on an i7 Hackintosh with an EVGA GTX Titan card, 32GB RAM, OSX 10.8.4. I was crashing constantly, but at different times during long renders. Turning off the screen saver seemed to have worked. I am going to do another test today.
As an aside, Octane runs perfectly fine and has never crashed on my Retina MacBook Pro.

Crash While Rendering - Possible Solution

Ok, just ran another test with the latest plugin 0.82. Using Pathtracing, 4400 samples, 200 frames with the scene updated every frame. Priority turned OFF to really push the Titan card. No crash!
I think turning the screen saver off solved my problem. Hope this is helpful to anyone experiencing hangs/crashes on render.
