Hello there,

this is my first test with the new rhino plugin, apart from a few small things i really have to say that i am totally amazed (and this is from someone who worked with vray since its first beta stages)
I really like the amount of control and the fast feedback...
I used proxy objects for the trees and also some ies light inside worked out great. I will post some more pictures later.

best

Andreas

hello, can you explain how you did with the grass?
Did you use grass 3d 1mx1m or bigger?
SORRY, MY ENGLISH IS BAD!

Hello Daniel,

I am still experimenting what is the best way to do it, what I did in this test is

1. model different 3 Grass leaves, texture them, array them with a horizontal degree of 120, make a block of them

2. use the Rhino grow/ scatter script from CAM NEWNHAM found here: http://www.camnewnham.com/rhinogrow-0-25/
distribute the grass block onto a 2m X 2m surface (here are the numbers I used: Uscatter 70/Vscatter70/Jitter0,03/Variances0,35)

3. Explode the Blocks, save them as obj. file

4. create another Block name it e.g. "grassplane2X2", under the octane geometry tab assign the saved object file to the block

5. duplicate the block by copy and pasting it (that means "ctrl+c, ctrl.+v the rhino copy command does not work here, the block losses the assigned obj. file...), nuge the duplicated block by 2,1m

(In the picture I scaled the 2mX2m plane by 200% so they are actually 4mX4m)

The method is not working perfectly right now, as you can see in the attached picture, the seams of the grass panels are clearly visible and of course the approach is very inflexible. My goal is to find a solution which is easy to use, flexible, and of course gentle on the viewport performance.

I am trying to find a workflow to distribute the grass over a user defined area, this should be possible by using csv files which octane supports for proxies, right now I was unsuccessful to get a working csv file from the scatter script (you can create a text file by copy + pasting the numbers from the command line but they are not separated by comma...)

I will keep you all updated

P.S. if someone already knows a better way please let me know ;-)

best

Andreas

Great work! -- I especially like the interior shot.

I think I recognize the people you used -- are they from AXYZ by any chance? If so, any issues importing them into Rhino? I've been thinking about buying a few for my scenes.

Thanks Andreas. Btw, your grass is looking very nice. Once the seam issue is worked out I think you'll have an excellent result.
