Hi, I wondered if it's possible to network render with the DAZ plugin? I have an older PC's which has a GTX 760 card and I'm in the process of building a new PC with 3x760. Is it possible to render using both PC's over a network or will I need to buy another standalone/plugin license? I had planned to fit all 4 760's into the new PC but in case this doesn't work I wondered if I could use the fourth card over a network without needing to buy a whole new standalone/plugin license.

well currently the license for octane doesn't allow renderfarm usage or such - what'd be the point in network rendering.

from a technical point of view daz studio itself provides nothing to distribute scene data, manage network clients, shared data, output, etc., so the octane (or the plugin) would need to implement all this all on itself; so, unfortunately, i doubt we will see this in the close future...

nothing wrong with that - you should not mismatch "cloud rendering" vs. building a private render farm. the latter is not included in octanes enduser license ever since, nor does octane provide methods esp. for (local-)net-rendering. whereas on the other hand the cloud rendering service is top prio thing.

no. i mean "no, i'm not saying that" ;) the cloud rendering service will be open for all plugins, if it is maya or daz studio.

ps - for additional clearance: of course you may use several octane licenses on several machines and render to whatever amount of stuff you like. in technical terms a render farm means a dedicated server using net clients and a management tool to distribute render jobs. usually you would have a server license and a number of cheaper net licenses. clearly octane doesn't feature something like that (or has such a licensing model), and i can't say if there are plans to provide such. but i don't speak for otoy and don't know their hidden plans, so let's see.

still it would be much easier to implement net rendering with hosts like max, maya or cinema, etc., where the host already provides mechanisms to distribute jobs and scene data, and already existing networked render clients are able to load plugins just like the host. studio doesn't have all that, thus it (once again) would mean extra-extra lots of coding to provide it...

Ok, no network rendering but what if you want to render on two computers? Would that mean buying two lots of OR? Not even a discount for people who already own the standalone and plugin? I can use Adobe, Boris FX, Sony Vegas, Hitfilm 2, Red Giant on both a PC and laptop but not Octane? Many of us have more than one PC, I think it would be a nice revenue stream for Otoy and a convenience for customers to offer a discounted second version. It wouldn't be too difficult to verify that the IP address is the same for both computers in a home network. I'm not talking about a commercial/business license here but for students and hobbyists like myself with a spare PC knocking about. Please consider it.

if you like to use them at the same time - yes.

you are allowed to use octane on one computer at a time, but are not limited to a specific machine. it's exactly the same like with several of the packages on your list: definitely adobe, vegas; don't know for the others. still, network rendering is a different game, and usually adds additional costs (for most packages i know of).

I see what you mean about only being able to use Adobe and Sony software on one PC at a time. Still, I hope OTOY do consider offering a second copy at a discount. Especially considering many of us who use DAZ aren't making a living off of our creativity but are artists, students or hobbyists who can't afford the top level software. Not that DAZ and Octane can't produce really great results which they can. OR is a less expensive way in for DAZ users like myself to get results that may compare to much more expensive solutions. Being able to use a copy on a second PC isn't going to match a high end computer with quad Titans but it would help speed up rendering animation scenes a bit. I live in hope!
