Ok I may have found a bug OR I haven't changed the options for Octane render needed for animation of rigged characters in Maya 2014. I've tested 2 rigged models, one I've created myself following a Tut from Autodesk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az9Iycp3 ... B&index=20 and a fully rigged Despicable Me character http://www.cgmeetup.net/home/minion-rig ... maya-rigs/
With the Minion Octane render it states that there is no mesh/geometry and with my model partly rigged it just states "//Error: Octane: Error mesh export. Octane render stopped".
Is there something I missed in the render settings for advanced rigged characters? it seems at this point Octane can not see/render them. Meshes textured or not render fine. I think it might have something to do with applying a new skin on the bones or "grouped" meshes. Perhaps there is an option to turn off or on "render groups"?
Update -partial solution: I found out why my rigged model wasn't permitted to render because I had to configure the render settings to "change names to unique" under the "Additional Settings" tab. I don't know if it's possible for the developers to add in the error message: select "change names to unique" under Octane Render Settings, "Additional" tab.. (this would be good to add if Octane was able to detect identical naming that is causing this problem -one change that could eliminate headaches, well at least for the inexperienced user like myself that may not have a clue why the render can't proceed.
Anyone else having issues?

I'm afraid i cannot reproduce exact steps to cause that octaneLightTransform bug - it's just happaned while i was tweaking materials/parameters, and i don't remember i even touched those lights or regrouped them. I'll try to track what exactly going on if it's gonna happen again.

Found 1 more thing: it seems that octane plug-in somehow corrupting userPrefs.mel file:
i have user preferences autosave disabled, so when i'm launching Maya, pressing "save preferences" in empty scene - everything is fine on the next Maya launch.
But if i'll load scene with some octane nodes(and Maya will load octane plug-in) and save my preferences, on the next Maya launch i'll get vanilla interface without user defined layouts and all options reset to defaults and with default "hello new user" screen.
That happened to me like 20 times already, but i couldn't track the source of the problem. Now seems it's Octane plug-in.

I confirm octane plug-in corrupting my preferences as well, here on windows7 x64 maya 2013 or 2014.Joss wrote:Found 1 more thing: it seems that octane plug-in somehow corrupting userPrefs.mel file:

It happened to me continuously since at least the last 5 betas.
I got rid of this problem only recently: I had to delete the "maya" user folder, not only the "2014x64" or "2013x64".
It seems that since maya 2013, deleting 2013x64 folder and choosing "create new default preferences" at start, is not enough to get completely new user preferences. Maya copy some files from previous version like "presets" and probably copy something that octane plug-in doesn't like. So deleting the complete "maya" user folder solved the problem for me.

Hi,
I got problem using Maya 2012 32-bit with OctaneRender plugin for Maya 1.20.
The problem is that, in the Hypershade window, when I double clicked the "Octane Diffuse Material", then Maya would get frozen (however, the textual 'output window' window of Maya could still be clicked and moved around).
I got this problem with "OctaneRender for Maya v1.20a Demo.exe", "OctaneRender for Maya v1.20a.exe", and "OctaneRender for Maya v1.20 beta.exe".
However, when I used the demo of the older version of the plugin (OctaneRender for Maya v1.0 RC3c beta Demo.exe), there was no problem at all.
I have licenses for both OctaneRender standalone Maya plug-in, and they're already activated.
More info about my PC :
- Windows 7 64-bit
- GPU : GTX 285 (the same issue was also reported to happen on my colleague's workstation with GT 330 M)
- Graphics driver : 320.49
Just being curious, I also deleted the user pref folder (mentioned by callus on the previous 2 posts).
Thanks.
