I really love the DAZ plugin but now that Carrara 8.5 has been released with much more Genesis integration will we ever see a Carrara version of Octane? Is it possible to port the DAZ plugin over to Carrara? DS and Carrara compliment each other so well now that an Octane plugin for Carrara would be great.

unfortunately a port isn't possible; the carrara api/ui-framework is completely different from studio, so an octane plugin would need to be done from ground up...

That's ok, DAZ have just jacked up the Carrara upgrade price by $100 in less than seven hours so as a long term Carrara and Platinum Club member I could care less if there's ever a Carrara Octane plugin. I'm done with it and will stick with DS from now on.
UPDATE: This was a DAZ shop glitch thankfully so I may now upgrade just for the improved Genesis/animation features and integration with DS. All if forgiven DAZ! For now anyway...

I've got quite a lot of DAZ Genesis content and I'm working with animation a lot so a Carrara upgrade makes sense for the enhanced animation which I can use with Genesis and then export to DAZ and then render with Octane plugin or render with Octane standalone. To me the DAZ/Carrara integration is worth the $85.50 upgrade (this includes the V5 & M5 Pro bundles for anyone who hasn't got them yet.)
I think the 8.5 update shows that DAZ are serious about developing Carrara so their claim that v9 will be released in 2014 seems more convincing. That's another reason why I upgraded.
The main reasons I'm sticking with DAZ/Carrara is cheap content, great Octane renders and familiarity with the software. I have Lightwave 11 which I hardly ever use because I would have to buy suitable content for it, buy the LW Octane plugin and learn how to use it. I don't make models from scratch. I much prefer to create scenes by mixing the content I already own and often DAZ content doesn't work well with LW without a lot of adaption. The cost of buying new content for LW is not within my budget. Changing software is a big step - not just in the learning curve but all the other associated costs.
I don't need the level of realism and sophistication that the higher end software offers at a much higher price. I think DAZ/Carrara together with Octane can produce really great results. It just depends what your needs are I suppose.
