A lot of news and hype around this renderer. Anyone have experience with Arnold?
Cpu based unbiased renderer used by big studios. Looks like its going to be an industry standard

good read here on rendering

A good read indeed.

I have been looking into Arnold. Check their latest demo reel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MJ9lbKF2-U.

No doubt this CPU-based unbiased renderer creates great results. It has some of the features we are still waiting for on Octane.

But in the light of Otoy's upcoming cloud based rendering you can wonder wether Solid Angle is still on the right track.

I have read that one production quality frame on Arnold renders about 3-4 hours and costs dearly on a CPU renderfarm.

A frame on the Octane cloud render service would maybe take less than a minute? And $1 per gpu per hour as far as I know?

But Octane's most valuable advantage will be the extremely fast previewing and tweaking you can do on the cloud service. Arnold has a similar way of rendering a scene, but not at all that fast.

A little further into the future you could hook up a virtual camera to a realtime Octane output while motion capturing... or are they already doing that on the new Fantastic Four?

One more thing, I think that Solid Angle's decision to keep Arnold for the 'happy few' and secret and away from 99% of the world's 3D animators and designers says a lot about the people behind it.

It might just be the thing that will prevent it from becoming great. Otoy is heading in exactly the opposite direction, thank god.

Cloud Render should be already released, and there are no news about it, I
asked in the proper forum , and the silence is complete, hanging there for a month after Sigraph, maybe next year, they'll announce again at Sigraph .

There are many People, willing to know in order to launch their Production plans,
all over America , I suppose.
Arnold at the present moment is the better solution,(if you are not using 3ds Max )or keep waiting for an unpredictable release.
It is the second time Octane announces Cloud, there was a previous announcement ,
partened with Autodesk.
Something clearly went Wrong, and the silence goes on and on.

Hi emihich,

I don't think anything is wrong. Otoy first tests a beta version of the cloud service in one area (I think it was LA, would make sense), then the rest of the US and then Europe (where I am), they planned it that way.

I guess it's not a walk in the park, so we'll just have to be patient...
