Is there a way for light from lets say a hdr, to pass through a wall without being affected, almostlike the wall is still there but invisible to the light from the hdr so that the light from the hdr can still shine on the characters face or body as if without the wall?

I can't think of a way to do this - since Octane is a physically accurate renderer, so hard to get non-physically accurate results. My suggestion would be to render the wall, then make it invisible and render the face with an HDR image and alphachannel ENABLED, then composite the 2 in photoshop/gimp/whatever.
