I'm just asking because I have a job Octane would be perfect for, but I'd need that 4x speed increase to get it done. Is it a month away? Next year?
Not asking for a precise date, but curious about how close it is to release.
I'm very excited for this big increase, and also the prospect of using the cloud rendering service. I think it's going to change the game for a lot of artists.
How close is Octane 1.5?

Goldorak stated that the 4x speedup applies to complex mesh emitters not Octane as a whole:

Just to clarify -the 4x speed boost for emitters was originally planned as a 2.0 feature, but it is far enough along that there may be time to squeeze it into 1.5. If not, it will be in the 2.0 beta1 which will start once 1.5 is out of RC.
I use mesh emitters mostly, so I guess it would help me.MOSFET wrote:Goldorak stated that the 4x speedup applies to complex mesh emitters not Octane as a whole:Goldorak wrote:The 4x speedup is for complex mesh emitters, and it is dramatic, as you will see in the image when they are online. A timescale is good for the users but bad for the developers...
When the time is up, everone will have the new features, the developer will implement it faster as they should and you get a product wich can´t used for your work.

something like shut up and wait ? Is it the same for all ? big Studios included ?
The development team for the world's first GPU based, un-biased, physically based renderer should be cut some slack. Especially since the GPU architecture they are programming it into is still maturing. If they give us a deadline and then suddenly they run into a speed bump that they cannot easily surpass and that causes them to go over that deadline, it is far worse for their business then simply keeping it hush-hush for now.
Both the cloud edition and 1.5 features are progressing nicely, but it is still premature to lock onto a date right now. Once we're ready for a wider release, we'll post a formal announcement in the forums and news section.
