I saw a new arion announcement. http://goo.gl/d6VpzH
And I just did a quick test how would octane render respond in a similar scene. Made the scene in around 20min. So, it shouldn't be judged as a academic comparison. Of course it could be performed better. That being said....

Scene rendered in PMC 14K samples. Caustic blur 0,02. Max depth 32. 45min render on a single Titan. OctaneDaylight is used. Sunsize 2.0 Materials used from liveDB.

Incase you care to tweak it your self. I also attached the scene file below.

The first image is the arion's image as posted in their site.
Other is the octane output

hello, thanks for the file, good to see how other people work.
I think that you should not set pure black to "texture1" for the band effect.
when I set to 7 7 7, I get less noise at the edge of the black/"white".

Thanks HHbomb ,
You are right about the blackness.

One quick question to you.
I couldn't manage to make the shadow of the water, sharper like arion guys did.
Would you somehow know a way to do that?
Can you post an sample

Yeah I thought about that, too.
Eventhough I reduced the sunsize to 0.1 which is the limit. That shadow was no where near the compared render from arion.
I wonder if it is realated with the specular material limits or the sun.
Cause I couldn't achieve it not wiht changing caustic blur or daylight power.

Hi,
i warmup this thread.
I am quiet new with Octane.
And i must say i love it. First it was little disappointing because the glass was not so nice
but then i played around with it and now it works very good.
Watch attached picture to se my result.

And my first animationtest i made also you can watch it on youtube.
