Alright I'm really getting disappointed . This is only the second production scene ive set up -- and both times Ive had problems. I'm doing something wrong, but what?

The first: Simple exterior building scene. Sunlight. Fine. Then added a car. no - now Bad white dots In two areas on the image.

. ok setting changes on that: hot pixel to zero. caustic_blur 1 - that fixed it. phew.
Thanks to Face_off for that fix.

NOW SCENE 2 -

put a simple animated character in an environment. High camera angle. Several
LARGE dots , looks about the same color as characters outfit following it on the dark floor. BAD. UNUSUABLE!

I changed the hot pixel setting to zero. I zeroed the characters clothes and items to 0 specular.
Nothing works.

very disappointed.

What am I doing wrong please?

It is incredibly difficult to help you unless you post a screenshot of your problem. If you send my the pz3 file I can take a look at it too.

Plus, knowing your Cuda driver version, Octane version, video card, OS and memory would help too.

Given the high probability this is user error, you may want to think about the title of this thread too - since people not as nice as me may provide you with the obvious comeback :-)

Are you using the Poser plugin, or Standalone? If the former, have you tried the latest stable release? Do you have a screenshot of the problem?

No. Im using the plugin- beta, 117 still. Unfortunately, Poser hasnt release their promised fusion plugin
for 2014. So Ive been holding back on upgrades. Perhaps this version is the problem?

I'm curious - Are these problems sometimes best solved through compositing?

If so, Is there a fast way to hide 95% of the octane scene in the plugin ?

thanks

Have you read the Poser plugin manual, and the Octane standalone manual yet? They are a quick read, and a good starting point for these sort of questions. Rendering with an alpha background, and shadow catching are both covered in the Standalone manual.

As they say, a picture is worth a 1000 words - so if we could see the actual problem you are having, that would help.

Ok, I'll read the manual again.

Sorry, I cant post a screen shot. It's a clients model under NDA. But Im using a fairly high
camera angle - and 3 large dots - about 4 inches in diameter - about a third the size of the characters head - are following the character on a dark floor. They look to be the color of the characters outfit. The outfit is not metal or anything. Just a simple bright cloth dress. { partly white} The scene rendered fine, before I added the character.

Maybe white is the culprit?

thanks.

Delete the clothing and see if it still happens. It could be the character clothing as some stray geometry.

If it still happen if you use the daylight environment?

If you strip everything out of the scene except the figure, clothing and ground does it still happen? If so, send my the scene and I'll take a look.

great idea Paul

I deleted the dress and all seems fine ! thats a relief!
But I'm not sure the client wants a nude character walking through the scene - lol.

Is there a way to test the clothing?

thank you
