Hi all,

We encountered something strange when activating Octane/Max on our render farm. We typically use Remote Desktop to maintain/activate our render slaves, and backburner as our render farm manager.

Here is the issue:

We installed and activated both Octane Standalone and Octane Max Plugin using remote desktop on our render slaves with no problems.

However, when launching the server through Remote Desktop, the server becomes unresponsive. When launching the server with its own monitor and keyboard, the server starts rendering as normal.

In both cases, backburner can see the servers with no problems.

Can anyone shed some light on what may cause this? We are somewhat worried that we will have to connect a monitor/keyboard to each render slave to start each server...eek!

best,
O

Maybe it's related to the fact, that GPU acceleration/CUDA is not supported when using windows remote desktop?
Try using another remote software. I'm using free version of RealVNC and it works fine with Octane.

happy that helped =)

@tonycho, probably got Your question answered already - VNC is an alternative method to use remote PC - there's a lot of differences covered if You google-up "RDP vs VNC" & there is already some talks in this forum too in some threads, if You are interested =)

Ok, not to complicate things, but any experiences with Radmin? My partner seems to think it's faster than VNC.

Wanted to find out if anyone has experiences with it...

About to install a new Remote software on multiple machines (workstations and slaves), so I'm trying to gather as much info as I can before biting the bullet. =)

best,
