Hello,
I'm unable to view my backround image through glass....the glass is set to specular material, any ideas? alphashadows and alphachannel are both active and the ground plane is set to diffuse and Matte is enabled. It works great just as long as the camera is not behind glass.

Probably glass settings? Maybe change the index of the glass?

This is a background image and not an HDRI right?
If so, this is normal, the background image is not part of the scene, it is just a backdrop. Think of it the same as if you take the rendered image and overlay it onto the background in post. It was added purely to provide a reference for placement of your geometry.
On the other hand an HDRI is different, you should be able to see it through specular materials because it is part of the scene.

Hey Chris, that makes sense, but the backround image is almost like a layer I would have thought. If I removed the glass geometry I would be able to see through the window because my scene is overlaying the backround image. I always thought that if you could see through the geometry than you could see the backround...but what you say does make sense. I can only see limited usage for backround...especially if you have glass and you want to see out of it or through it....wish there was a way around this other than HDRI image.FooZe wrote:This is a background image and not an HDRI right?
