Hi everyone :)

I just switched to Octane v1.20 and I'm having a problem with the MATTE option.
Note : the scene was modelled in Sketchup.

Anyone could help ???

Well in Sketchup you can't really check normals. (not that I know of)
But I did try the "orient faces" and "invert faces" option without any improvement...

I switched back to v1.10 and it works perfectly.
Such a shame I can't use v1.20 :(

What is the point of using matte here?

Hi Karba, I use Matte in that kind of situation, so I can only have the trees' shadows.
Then in Photoshop/Gimp I put the trees I want in post-prod (2D images).

That is not what matte is for.
Matte material allows the environment to receive shadows from some object to fit the object to picture.
So matte materials is not for shadows casting, it is for shadows receiving.

Yes indeed.
Still, in v1.10 it worked differently so I was able to use it this way
It must be a Sketchup-related problem, since it works fine using v1.20 with 3DSMax.

(moderators can move this topic to the Sketchup section if they want to)

That's the reason why I ask for ever for the ability of making invisible materials casting only shadow.

 Main use is obviously is for trees : we could use 2D cut-out trees facing the light direction (invisible) to cast correct shadow, and an other facing the camera for correct tree shape.
