Trying to use the dirt node, and I'm noticing that if I turn it up, even a little, it seems to show dirt at all the vertices - making the surface look like it's not smoothed. Any ideas what I need to do to stop this, while retaining a decent amount of dirt at a decent radius? You can see various parts of this bulldozer exhibiting the behaviour I'm talking about.

I also encountered this problem. Did you try to invert the normal and switch the materials input of the mix node ? Some times it helps.

If you invert the normal, the effect still shows, just reversed. No comments from Octane folks?
