Yesterday morning this GTX, didn't showed up in system prefs, but after praying to freelancers God and some restarts, everything back to normal.

Not for long...

It turns out that when I hit render button - system freezes. Every single time...
I looked again in system prefs - VRAM (Total): 1 MB. Damn...
It was possible to render without this single card, so I did.
After work I checked up what is going on and I found this fried power cable.

I took the picture, cried a litle bit :), and shared my despair with you guys.

Today I checked up the card, nothing seems to be fried after all.. so i changed power cable, plug in what was left of my PSU socket and... works.
But I'm not going to left my rendering without supervision,
I like my house and Im not going to burn it down. yet ;)

By the way: PSU and whole rig is 2 months old.

@Beppe You shouldn't be worried, Mac's are indestructable.
My Mac Pro was safe all the time standing under second desk;)
It was my hack'n'beast workstation.

I have three 580's and a similar thing happened to me...

The 24-pin connector of my motherboard (and also the connector on the 1200w psu) got fried. Took 5 months but got both replaced for free :)

Wonder if the 580 could be the culprit...

This makes me little nervous for my precious 580's
Does anyone has any idea what the cause can be :?:

bad contact, that's causing some resistance and heat.. with some time under stress it will melt down the contacts. It's good to check once in a whil if there is no visible trace of such procesess.

as for 24 pin conector, You need to conect extra 6or8 pin conector /not for procesor, but one for pci devices/ if Your motherboard had one..otherwise it's too much stress going on 24pin conector.

Yeah everything was hooked up properly, 3x 6+8 pin for the 580's. even extra molex connectors on the motherboard when using 4 gpu's (quadro for display with a 6 pin pcie cable). 2 pins on the 24 pin got burned, no overclock though...

Maybe it's too much for the psu... Got an add2psu adapter for a second 300-400W psu to power a 580 and take the load of the main psu. Trying that out in a bit when have time.
