Hi Paquito,
Glad I found this thread since I'm on the same mission. Regarding your statement: "Having said that, my guess is that I really need not an extreme CPU, but something decent, with a good amount of good quality RAM and very powerful GPU" - is this the same machine you will be using for your Modo modelling work? If so, I would suggest that the CPU would probably be important - perhaps some others here would know more about how Modo uses the CPU other than rendering.

Holy smokes!
that took a while.. I forgot all about our little project.
Please post the mb, case, psu, GPU's (duh), mem, watercooling (if any) as soon as you can.
I for one am very eager to see what you went with!

Nice Paqi - glad to see you took the plunge!
Is the Mobo a MSI 990FXA-GD80V2?
Waterblock on the 690 and in the loop?

The mobo is the GD65. After some research Ive found its the best choice for me, with no OC options, reasonably cheap and with a decent quality. About the water cooling Im not sure, it will be the first time I own a watercooled system, so I dont know about it.
So, the new system is up and running. The only thing is a bit noisy to my taste, sounds like a helicopter.
Other than that, I loaded an old scene and the render time went down from 3 minutes to 20 seconds, so it´s really nice work with it, both GPU and CPU.
I guess the noise comes from the psu fan, the GPU fan is working now at 30% so it´s kinda quiet. I wonder if there is something to do to make the PSU more silent.

Hey Paq, I highly recommended the Corsair AX1200... by all accounts it is virtually dead silent...
You went with another one for some reason.
I have a Corsair TX850M v2 and it is just a faint whisper, when the fan is on...
