I am trying to use the dirt node to get an effect. I want it to affect the edges of an object. I plug it in to the diffuse (for example) of a glossy node, and mess with the settings (inlcuding invert normal), till I get the effect I want. It is only darkening the edges. Yay!

However I want it to be making a dark diffuse lighter at the edges. Easy, says I, I'll just run the output through an Invert Texture node. However, when I do that, the whole object goes white. Similarly, if I use teh output to drive a textur mixer, with a white input betging mixed with a black. I can only get it to show the effect going black at the edges.

Any ideas?

I tested this with the standalone and it works as expected. The effect becomes much more pronounced if you invert the dirt texture, so you may need to decrease the dirt effect after connecting to the invert texture.

I tried it on a simple cube and it works ok, must be something to do with the geometry. No worries.
