i'm very honored to test octane and arion, here is some result between those awesome render

egnine:

Arion's dominant:
1.fully support mesh light
2.fully support material presets library
3.jpg,png,tga format supported
4.multiply camera switch
5.AO,Z,objectID,renderID pass
6.CPU+GPU+LAN support,u can select which gpu to render or even turn off cpu, that's awesome!

Octane's dominant:
1.easy controlling material and it's very simple!
2.DirectLighting is really faster than arion, great help to animation
3.easy camera autofocus
4.easy animation control
5.when pausing,it can still adjust material or something, that would save the gpu power
6.smart zoom picking mode
7.three different subsampling to speed up rendering

Octanre's future improvable suggestion:
1.Mesh Lighting(very important)
2.Material presets library to speed up workflow.(very important)
3.MLT to reduce flyfires(very important)
4.camera lock option,Multi camera switch and create!(very important)
5.autosave image when rendering
6.instance proxy to build a huge scene(very important)
7.region render
8.CPU+LAN rendering support
9.alpha,ao,materialID,objectID pass support
10.quickly merge/delete/hide option
11.more stabilize

I think Mesh lighting, MLT, Camera lock, and alpha are all coming in beta 2.3.
CPU support is not planned as the slight speedup is not seen as worth it.
I am not sure when the material library is coming but I think it is being worked on.
That covers a lot of the important ones but the other features you mention would be very good too.
I especially would like to see the id passes and similar features for compositing.
Also I'm looking forward to seeing more/expanded material types, and spectral dispersion for refractive materials.

I agree. What real benefit is there to adding the cpu into the equation. There is a reason people are moving to gpu rendering, its screaming fast. The only reason I can se a benefit is so that people that have already invested a ton of money into their cpu render systems dont feel like they need to start all over, even though they should.

As always when a program does not allow for automation I recommend creating a simple script for yourself using wilson windowware winbatch. I just lost an entire night's worth of work in octane. I woke up and windows had rebooted in the night and my 16,000 samples went down the drain. Tonight every 30 minutes I will have winbatch click the pause button in octane, click the the save png button, increment a name, save the file to the disk and then click the play button. I recommend that everyone does the same so you never loose anything ever again.

we really need BATCH RENDER, please and AUTO-SAVING
I don't know how to implement it better but there might be switching between cameras and auto-saving OR the camera position (preset) switching (like a normal animated camera works using key-frames) and auto-saving.
SO AUTO-SAVING FIRST, next the animated camera and next THE BATCH RENDER.

I'm not sure about CPU support but remote GPU (LAN/WAN) it's cool !!!

Batch Render - it's already available through Comand Line / You can leave Your rig to render multiple files, with multiple setings & save result as diff formats to chosen directories.

Auto Saving - /sort of/ You can use same Batch Ender with a help of comand lines to render lie two mages with 8ksamples instead one with 16k, & then combine those in PS -as far as. know the same result.

as for remote GPU, for now the only option is to buy extender & extend Your system to utilise more GPUs

Hi Glimpse,
I always like to read your posts, very helpfull and clearifying everytime.
About using the command line and Batch render: is there a manual for all the parameters?

I have done a little bit with command line and Batch rendering a while ago when making an animation,
I used Sketchup to make a txt file and Changed some parameters and ran the Batchfile. It worked, but I don't want to use Sketchup as a tool only for making the path and it is a pain learning the parameters with trial and error.
