Can someone confirm that the maximum render image size is 8000 x 8000?

If that's the case, why is that the maximum?
I had a request (I know, a stupid one) to provide a render at 12000 x 12000.

Cheers,
Steve

It appears to be impossible to increase these values above 8192 x 8192 - even in the plugins - so that appears to be the limit.

I get such requests from clients rom time to time too and then tell them the whole dpi and view distance story beginning from Adam and Eva...

I end up just resizing the image simply if they still strictly want their higher res image. But mostly they understand.

You can render 12000x12000 in 4 times 6000x6000 by using lensshift.
I know somewhere on this forum there is a post where someone explains how to calculate the exact lensshift when using a certain fov.
Otherwise you can render 4 bigger sizes and make certain the lensshift is amking an overlapping render, so they can be stitched.

This is a bit out of the topic, but I was wondering what would be the best resolution for a A1 size print? Or it does not really matter as long as I set a high maxsample?

All depends on printquality you want or the printer can handle.
for instance for A3 150dpi= 1754x2480px, but for A3 300dpi= 3508x4961px.
When my calculating is correct I have 9933x7016px for A1 (594x841cm) 300dpi.
