Hello everyone!

A while ago I purchased a copy of OctaneRender standalone edition, and was wondering if there were any animation tools within the program? I've been through a few old threads (one from 2009) which said that they were going to implement animation in beta 3, which I assume was a while ago.

Do I need to buy the Octane powertools plugin or is there some tab hiding away from me?

Thanks,
Stirls.

Hi :P

No, you do not need to buy Octane Power Tools.

Bad news (for you) 1st..

Animation is not directly built in to Octane Render Stand alone version..

Now the good news...

There are MANY ways to do animations rendered with Octane Render (either with the stand alone or a plugin for the following program's) some are free and some are not.

The free route: download Blender from here: http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/

It's open source (free & legal) but has a steep learning curve for some people, I use this myself, Then, download Lionel's free plugin here:http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=21412 you will find all the help you need to get started here: http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=32

If you don't mind getting another free program (but having to pay 99 Euros for the plugin) then I would advise you to download Daz Studio 4.5 as that's free and AWESOME here: http://www.daz3d.com/ there are also other free program's there that help with your work flow and free & paid content for the apps. Then, buy (from Otoy) the Daz Studio Plugin here, in the Beta section: http://render.otoy.com/shop/ help is here: http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=44

Also,

You could buy Poser from Smith Micro: http://poser.smithmicro.com/poser.html I recommend either Poser 9 or Poser Pro 2012, I use the latter ;) And then buy the poser plugin from: http://render.otoy.com/shop/ and get help here:http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=45

As you will see on the Otoy website, other program's are supported also..

Maya
3DStudio Max
ArchiCAD
Light wave

With more in the pipeline ;)

The short of it is that if you don't already use one of these apps, your going to need to get hold of (and learn how to use) at least one of them to reach your target :D

Hope this helps some ! PM me if you need any help ok, best of luck :D

Thank you so much for the reply! I might buy the plugin for 3Ds Max. I really wish they would allow animated obj files in the standalone version. That would make things a tonne easier.

Having enough close acquaintance with these two products (DS and Poser), I would like to warn against wasting money on the appropriate plug-ins. If you intend to go pro, better stick with Blender. Though, I saw the examples of serious professional animation jobs done with participation of DS2(!), in the main DS and Poser are products for hobbyists. And, against Poser, DS has very limited animation tools in general (if we suppose Poser to be an animation software package).

Give up.
I started a very busy topic , a long time ago.
They won't do it ,and Max plugin , despite Karba's very good work, is slower than Iray in 3ds Max 2014 , and Iray supports IBL now, I've just tested.
I love the standalone, , but it is just sitting there , They don't give a damn.
It is ok if you need product visualization but Lagoa is better for this and it comes free.
I am lucky I also have Vray license.

For the money, I think Poser provides very good animation tools. Check out some of the Poser video by ghidghid - there are a number of tutorial that might help - http://www.youtube.com/user/ghidghid?feature=.

Gotcha. I'm happy with Octane's still image renderer, but I need to animate objects. I have a copy of iRay just sitting there, I suppose I will give it a go. Thank you all for the responses.
