Hello,
I am new and very excited about the new C4D-Octane Plug In. Unfortunately the material system is a little bit complicated. I am sure you have a lot of advantages to use such a material system but for a beginner it is not too easy to handle this. Now my question:
The stand alone Octane version has some very beautiful materials - can I use these stand alone materials in my C4D Plug In and if it is possible how can I use?
Best regards, Udo

hi lehmannudo and welcome
please, for c4d-octane integrated plugin questions, refer to the correct section of the forum:
http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=30
about your answer on materials, currently is not possible to import-export materials between standalone and plugin, but the developer is working on a new version with this features and other goodies like live-db materials support, so stay tuned

It's been 3 years since this was posted. Is it possible now?
(I'm not allowed to post in the plug-in section because the company I work for owns the licenses for Octane. You don't seem to realize that people like me are working with Octane professionally every day, yet aren't the technical license owners. A company would never allow an employee to use their corporate user name for a forum post)

Hi Doctor_Pizza,
yes sure, from a lot of versions, we have the ability to import/export materials in .orbx format, plus there is the LocalDB section in both Standalone and c4d plugin to better organize the local material library shared by both.
